the story of the Tamara-griffin

Here it is, another scheduled post, brought to you by the wonder of WordPress. It’s currently FRIDAY and I spent all night working on a gift for SUNDAY and it’s half-done, but I ran out of one color of thread! This post will go up Monday after the beautiful bride-to-be receives this gift at her shower, but I need to find somewhere that sells sulky thread and carries this shade of light grey! First take a look at the gift-in-progress, and then I’ll tell you the story.

When I was in high school I moved provinces. The timing of the move meant that I went from high school in BC to junior high in Alberta. It was slightly traumatic – I had to leave my friends, my boyfriend, my school, the town of 3000 people where I spent most of my childhood. The very first person I was introduced to when I arrived at my new school was Jesse. Jesse is a book lover, a D&D’er, a procurer of fantasy, Monty Python, and Lost Boys. I think the first thing she ever gave me was an illustration of a “Tamara-griffin” – a griffin that reflected everything about me through her eyes.

A lot of has happened since then. I went to university, she took up the trades. I bought a house in the city, she lives out at the farm. She was a bridesmaid at my wedding and her son was the ring-bearer. Now she’s getting married in 2 weeks(!!!) and her bridal shower is this weekend, a “linen shower”. I had no idea what that was so I started googling, and there’s no registry, no color schemes, nothing. So I thought of the most Jesse-thing I could think of and made it. So I guess in return for the Tamara-griffin, she gets a Jesse-towel? 😀

bon appetit!

I finished my Bon Appetit project yesterday! You wanna take a look?

The fabric is Emily Taylor’s Domestic Diva for Riley Blake (you may remember the bubbles from my laundry bag a while back!). The embroidery design is from Urban Threads, I got it during their 2010 bestseller sale (for $1! oh yeah!).

I really need a ruffler for my machine… i pulled each of those ruffles by hand!!!

bon appetit! wip…

Pfelicia and I had a disagreement last night. I said she should embroider and she didn’t think she should. She then puked bobbin thread all over my piece.  After a few tries I got so frustrated that I literally threw my hoop and the hooped piece over my shoulder (in retrospect I probably shouldn’t have done that, I think a new hoop is about $200 dollars and it seems to be special order…) and we each went our separate ways to cool off. I returned later and we stitched and made up:

The design is from Urban Threads. Stay tuned to see the final piece!

more xmas revealed…

So, I never ever got a picture of all of my little birdies completed together… I think I started handing them out before I finished the last ones. But here are half of them!

I think they turned out really well… totally adorable!  I think this set is what I took with me out-of-town.

I also had a surprise trip during my out-of-town trip.  Since we were in Lloydminster (Border City, right on the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan) and I have a very good friend in The Middle Of Nowhere, Saskatchewan, I decided to take a day trip down and see her very pregnant self.  With me I brought this one:

Yay for xmas!
